Christian Sorensen

December 21, 1961 — February 16, 2015

Christian Derek Sorensen

12/21/61 – 2/16/15

Chris Sorensen passed away peacefully at home Monday evening while surrounded by family. He was born in Burley, Idaho and spent summers there working on the farm with his Grandpa Curtis.

Chris, affectionately known as “Bongo,” attended school in Salt Lake City, graduating from Skyline High School where he was involved in student government, Madrigals and athletics. This time produced lifelong friendships that he treasured.

He attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship and loved playing for Coach Ron McBride. He graduated from BYU and later earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

Chris met his sweetheart, Jennifer Clarke, in the ninth grade and married her on August 25, 1983, in the Salt Lake Temple after completing a mission to Charlotte, North Carolina. They have three wonderful children who love and adore their father. Chris was a dedicated dad, never missing a ballgame or dance recital. Family was everything to this Gentle Giant.

Chris was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed the blessings that came through service. He loved serving in the bishopric, teaching youth at the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center and mentoring future missionaries.

His firm testimony carried him through many difficult challenges. He fought valiantly against diabetes for more than two decades.

Chris is survived by his wife, Jennifer; children, Tom (Whitney), Jeff (Liz), and Marissa (Braeden); parents, Tom and LeAnn Sorensen; sister, Heidi Sorensen; granddaughters, Ava and Reese who love their papa.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the Willow Creek 7 th Ward Chapel, 2115 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights.
