Our favorite Marine gave his last salute on January, 17th 2026.
Brent Duane Poulsen ( A.K.A “Bean”, “Beaner”, “Victor”, “Dad”, “Pops”, “Poppy”, “Grandpapa) was born to Wayne Seymour Poulsen and Jean M. Butler Poulsen on June 12th, 1940 in Murray, Utah. Being the oldest, Pops knew the twins Keith & Karen, were his responsibility. He didn’t mind other than they kept him on his toes. Pops graduated from Olympus High school in 1958 where he met his lifetime friends (partners in crime) Paul Shocker & Bob McKean.
After high school Pops proudly served our country in the United States Army for one year, and the United States Marine Corps for four years. He always said,”Once a Marine, always a Marine.” The love of his country carried on with the stories he shared with everyone.
Pops married Kay Wood on April 15th, 1960. Together they had Brett, Chad, Kaysie, and Kellie. Later they divorced. On July 5th, 1987 Pops found and married the love of his life Debby Hadlock Davis. Pops welcomed his extended family with open arms Justin, Tiffani, Jared, and Christy which he raised as his own.
Through the years he worked at many places including, Johnson Pratt & Snow Construction, Whitmore Oxygen, ACME Building Supply, Bill Roderick Distributing, WW Clyde Co., Glens Excavating, Salt Lake City Corp, and many more. Pops finally retired in June 2002, after helping the city of Salt Lake pull off a successful Olympics. He was proud of all his successes and hard work throughout the years.
Pops enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and grandchildren no matter what they were doing. He supported rodeos, softball, baseball, volleyball, football, lacrosse, dance, cheer, horse racing, and all their birthdays. Veterans Day was one of Pop's favorite holidays. He was always invited to the program at the grandchildren’s school, where he was the special guest. He would wind down each night with a toddy and a good story.
Pops will always be remembered for his perfect hair, contagious smile, cinnamon hot gum, nicknames, and witty replies. He welcomed everyone with kind words, a hand shake, and “How are you doing”.
