Bonnie Helen Lach Oswald passed away on April 21, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on June 5, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Edward Lach and Helen Lydia Gygi, Bonnie was the eldest of three children.

Bonnie graduated from East High School in 1956 and went on to pursue her passion for music and art. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Utah, completed her master's thesis at Harvard University, and earned her Master of Arts in Commercial Art from Brigham Young University. From 1963 to 1966, she attended the New England Conservatory of Music.

A gifted contralto, Bonnie performed with the Boston Symphony Octet, the Oakland Chamber Singers, the Boston Opera Association, and the Needham Philharmonic. She was also a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and sang in their first television broadcast. Her performances included concerts at the Mormon Interstake Center in Oakland, the University of California at Berkeley, California State Universities at Harvard and San Francisco, Mills College in Oakland, and the Salt Lake Tabernacle.

In addition to her musical talents, Bonnie was a skilled fashion illustrator and artist. Early in her career she worked for major department stores in Boston, Salt Lake City and San Francisco including positions as head layout artist. Following this, she maintained a busy schedule as a freelance fashion illustrator and graphic designer for over forty years and illustrated several children’s books and many other commercial art projects. She built a scrapbooking business with hundreds of stickers and sheets all of her own design. She also taught art history and graphic design for many years at Salt Lake Community College.

Bonnie met her husband, Stephen, in California’s San Francisco Bay Area, and they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 9, 1966. She was diligent in many church assignments, including serving as relief society president, devoted visiting teacher, an area missionary with her husband, family history teacher and researcher, as well as working on several projects with the relief society general board. She devoted much of her time to her children and grandchildren whom she loved and took great pride in, instilling in them a love of art, music, reading, and learning.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Stephen C. Oswald; her children, David (Stephanie), Daniel, and Shannon (Adam); and five grandchildren, Dane, Jacob, Ashton, Nathaniel, and Noelle. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Call; her brother, David Lach; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and in her final days she was at peace with her passing and expressed her excitement to be reunited with her mother.

She touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed, not only by her family, but also by the countless others whose lives she enriched through her generosity and eagerness to share her talents, whether artistic, musical or as a teacher and mentor.
