Arline P. Nicolaysen
1921 - 2017
Arline finally gave up the fight to keep the party going. She passed away July 9, 2017 under the loving care of her son Dan. She was full of life and loved to entertain family and friends. It’s hard to let all of that go. Arline LaRue Petterson was born July 15, 1921 in Garfield, Utah to Cora LaRue Duncan and Bengt Adolph Petterson. At the young age of 15 Arline met the love of her life John Albert Nicolaysen at a party playing a hot game of spin the bottle. They continued to court through their years at East High School and married in 1941. They celebrated 61 years of marriage together. Arline has always been a party girl from when she was 5 and conjured up a birthday party for herself to howling like wolves around the campfire in the Uintahs, card games at the cabin, the unforgettable hot tub party, tailgating at the U and many memorable Christmas Eves. But there were more sides to her than that. She was caring and compassionate. She was an accomplished artist, loved to read and was a great mom and loving wife. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband John in 2003, her brother Donald Petterson and three grandchildren Trever Nicolaysen, John Nicolaysen, and Andrew Rigby. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Cook, four children Gary (Cynthia), Marsha (Brent) Rigby, Kathy ( Peter) Rayner and Daniel, four grandchildren Michelle Moscon, Patrick Rigby, Paige Gauslin and Justin Nicolaysen and eleven great grandchildren. Graveside services will be Monday July 17th at 10:30 at the Salt Lake Cemetery. The gravesite is below the 11th Ave west entrance on 445 North and west of Center Street. Services will be followed by a celebration of life at the home of her daughter Marsha from 12 to 4.
