Anna Ruth Featherstone

September 16, 1946 — December 7, 2025

Anna Ruth Featherstone, 79, of Salt Lake City, passed peacefully on December 7, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 6, 1946 in Fort Worth, TX to the Reverend Sam and Mary Lee Ogan. The family later moved to Salida, CO where she spent her formative years and graduated from high school. Later, the family moved to Hereford, TX where Anna Ruth married Jack Andrews and had three children, Holly, Hayden and Amanda.

In 1988, she came to a crossroads in her personal life and became a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. She lived by the principles of AA and actively sponsored others looking for a new way of life. Upon her death, she’d been clean and sober for 37 years.

Later in life, Anna Ruth relocated to Aspen, CO where she spent many years enjoying mountain life. Aspen was a pivotal move for Anna Ruth as well as her children who credit this move to opening up the world for them, leading to the lives they have now. While in Aspen, she was employed in the retail industry and loved meeting celebrities and residents of the small town.

As her children reflected on her life, they mentioned that she exuded happiness to all those she encountered. Her alliances were not based on wealth or social status. She was a woman who loved everyone. If you knew Anna Ruth, she treated you like family, and those people returned the sentiment tenfold. Her impact on others was substantial - she knew the importance of being the friend who could truly see and hear people. She would remember the smallest details of stories her granddaughters would tell her. That ability to truly listen was one of her greatest assets.

Her best friend was her younger sister Debbie Pitman of Oklahoma City. Debbie’s husband, Marsh, said when the two sisters got together, they were like ‘chihuahuas on cocaine.’ Always up for adventure and good clean fun, the two were a blur of constant motion and provided endless entertainment for the whole family.

Anna Ruth spent the last chapter of her life in Salt Lake City where she married Ernie Featherstone. She will be remembered by those she touched. Her life’s work was her family, her 3 children and her 5 grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Holly (Chad Thomason) of Louisiana, son, Hayden Andrews (Marnie) of Utah and daughter, Amanda (Eoghan O’Donnell) of Ireland, grandchildren, Madeline, Lexa, Olivia, Amelia and Abby Rose, her sister, Debbie (Marsh Pitman), nieces and nephews Gabe Pitman (Christa), Abbie (Ben Parker), Benjamin Pitman (Sarah), Luke Pitman (Dianna), Jonathan Pitman and Susan (Troy Kiesling) and many grandnieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernie and brother Sam Ogan.

The family would like to thank Brande and the entire Home Instead family for the excellent care provided during their mother‘s final days. Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Light refreshments will be served.

The family is asking that donations be made to the AA Central Office of Salt Lake at (801) 484-7871. Please note the donation is in remembrance of Anna Ruth Featherstone.

Anna Ruth’s final days were spent surrounded by her loving family. During this time Anna Ruth gleefully told her family she could see Jesus. When asked what he looked like, Anna Ruth answered “he has very, very dark skin, long hair, the most precious soft eyes and kind of looks like a hippie.” Then, with her trademark humor added, “He’s my kind of guy. I love him.”

We should all be so lucky to have known Anna Ruth Featherstone.
