Rowan Dee Shirley
March 18, 1932-March 23, 2018
Dad was called home peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on March 23, 2018 from pancreatic cancer and was joyfully reunited with his sweetheart.
Rowan Dee Shirley was born March 18, 1932 in Kelsey Tx. He served his country for 4 years in the Navy. In 1956 he moved to Utah to attend BYU and there he met his Frannie May. Rowan married Frances Feik June 3, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad graduated from BYU with a career as a high school Driver Ed/history teacher. His students loved him. On his birthday he would come home with many cakes made by them. In 1963 Dad and Mom moved to Midvale UT to raise their family. To this union they were blessed with six children. As a member of the LDS church, Dad loved the Lord and served in many callings throughout his life.
Dad enjoyed visiting friends and family in Texas, playing Johnny Cash songs on his guitar, popcorn, black licorice, ice cream, DrPepper and giving nicknames to everyone he knew but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Dad is survived by his children Angela “EBug” (Steve) Bringhurst, Dawnell “O” Briggs, Steven “Willie Wise” (Linda) Shirley, Darla “Bump” Shirley, Shireen “Weiner” (Kelly) Pickering, Ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife Frannie May and son Spencer “Man Doll”
Graveside services will be held Monday, March 26, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A visitation will be held Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E Bengal Blvd. (7600 S), Cottonwood Heights, Utah from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
We love you Dad, Daddio, Doodus, Fatha-Fatha, Pa, Grandpa, Gramps, Bishop and Sir Rowan!!! You were and will always be our hero.
