Leon Reuel Suchey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on October 8, 2015, at home, surrounded by his family after fighting a battle with leukemia. Leon was born in Denver, Colorado on December 21, 1935 to Viola and Michael Suchey, Jr. After serving in the U.S. Army, Leon started his professional career at Spafford Paper Company, which relocated him to Salt Lake City. There he met and married Gay Ogden on August 16 th , 1963. He then worked at Hercules and ATK until he retired. After he retired he worked at the Salt Lake County Sports Office.

Leon loved sports. Throughout his life he participated in many different sports. He played basketball as a teenager and made all conference in high school. Throughout his adult life he played on more softball teams than we can count. Leon was an avid supporter of the University of Utah women’s volleyball and basketball teams. He was a devoted member of the Spiker’s Club. He loved sports so much that after he retired he continued to be involved with the planning and organization of softball and basketball leagues for Salt Lake County. He participated in the Huntsman Senior Games for 27 years, playing on several softball teams. His latest sports obsession was Pickleball, which only added to the numerous friends he made through his involvement in sports.

In addition to being a wonderful dad, Leon was an incredible grandpa. He was very happiest when he was spending time with his two grandchildren. He was a dedicated and doting grandfather, and his grandkids adored him.

Leon is survived by his wife, Gay, his children, Kevin and Nicole, his son-in-law, Erik Ostling, his grandchildren, Ethan and Astrid Ostling, and his brothers Eugene and Forrest. He is preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Michael, his sister Julia, and his brother Mick.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) at 1:00 pm. Friends may call one hour prior at the place of service.
