Kelly Patrick Stavrides

Kelly passed away on August 8, 2017, at the very young age of 20, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He was born to Patricia and Robert Stavrides in Raleigh, NC. Kelly had a special love for playing football; baseball, basketball, wrestling and tennis too. He excelled at everything and pushed forward through many obstacles. Kelly was a kind soft spoken person, and treated everyone with respect. His perseverance and strength were a remarkable gift. He and his brother, Nick, did everything together as kids, always hand in glove and watching out for each other. Kelly loved doing his best at everything.

Kelly had an injury in football and began having debilitating headaches. He was diagnosed with a condition called Chiari Malformation of the Brain (birth defect) in January 2013 and endured a complicated surgery. After the surgery, Kelly did not feel very well and suffered severe insomnia, fatigue, brain fog and depression and an overall feeling of helplessness caused by the disease.

Kelly is survived by his parents Robert and Patti (Stavrides), grandmother Marie (Stavrides) Salt Lake, Paul (Stavrides) Las Vegas, and leaves behind a loving older brother Nicholas, sister-in-law Heidi, and niece Lilah. Jim (Gibbons)/Linda Charlotte, NC; Mike (Gibbons)/Cindy Mt. Pleasant, SC; Kevin (Gibbons)/Susan Charlotte, NC and many cousins. He will be missed profoundly by all who knew him.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 14, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 East Creek Road (7900 S.)  A visitation will be held Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6-8 p.m.
