Janet Leonard

December 21, 1967 — December 4, 2019

Janet Ericson Leonard
1967-2019

Janet Ericson Leonard (51), loving wife and mother, passed away December 4, 2019 at home surrounded by family.  Exhibiting both faith and courage, she fought her 7 month battle with colon cancer in her own quiet, confident and loving way.  Never a complainer she was always grateful for everything she had.

Janet was born Dec. 21, 1967, in Salt Lake City, to C. Lee and Marion Gottfredson Ericson.  She was a most loved Christmas present to her five older brothers and sisters when she came home from the hospital on Christmas Eve.  She grew up in a loving family and had a happy childhood in East Millcreek.  She attended Olympus High School and graduated from Weber State College with a degree in interior design.

Janet accepted a call to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Charlotte, N.C., from 1989-1990.  For more than a decade, she worked along-side her brother Steve in the food service industry for Livingston Foodservice and Nicholas and Company.

Janet married Scott Leonard on June 23, 2004, in the Salt Lake Temple and they began a life together in Cottonwood Heights.  Having married later in life they were excited to welcome children into their lives.  Janet loved being a homemaker and was skilled at cooking, sewing, quilting and design.  There was nothing she loved more in life than being a wife and a mother.  Her family was her greatest treasure.  She taught and supported Lauren (12), Kaitlyn (10) and Braxton (8) in everything they did.

Janet was a good and faithful servant in her service to God as she loved the gospel and served in Primary and Relief Society organizations.  She was a quiet loving person who saw the best in everyone.  While she didn’t like to be the center of attention, she was always in the center of what was happening; constantly looking out for others and a perfect example of love, gentleness and kindness.  Janet was a great comfort and companion to her husband Scott whose heart is broken and who misses her deeply.

Janet is survived by her husband Scott Robert Leonard; their children Lauren, Kaitlyn and Braxton; and her siblings, David (Karen) Ericson, Steven (Kay) Ericson, Kathryn (Kerry) Nielsen, Karla (Barry) Lloyd, and Richard (Christine) Ericson.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, 11 am at the Butler 10th Ward, 6634 S. Greenfield Way, Cottonwood Heights.  A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Dec 11, 2019 from 6-8 p.m., Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South), and Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to service at the church.  Interment Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
