Max Joseph Lewis 12/19/1924 – 1/30/2012
Max Joseph Lewis loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather age 87 passed away on January 30, 2012 surrounded by loved ones at home. He fought a courageous 8 year battle with cancer. Max was born December 19, 1924 in Kamas, Utah to Joseph Elmer Lewis and Mary Vernie Lewis and later moved to Heber City. Max was an avid basketball player in high school and later joined the Heber CCC Camp team. He became the team’s top scorer and loved reminiscing about their successful record. In the summer of 1943 Max met Doradean Bacon, the love of his life. Their love affair was interrupted by his service in World War II, (Air Force) in India and Burma and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1945. When Max returned, Doradean knew she had found her “one and only” and Max knew he had found his “lovie”. They were married on October 26, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, November 17, 1972. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Max was a hard working teamster. To provide for his family he worked as dock foreman and driver for Rio Grande, Consolidated, Clark Tank Lines, and P.I.E for 27 years. Max was a great fisherman. He retired at 58 allowing him to enjoy 28 years of fishing, camping and making memories with his grandkids. He built wood tables, bookcases and porch swings, which his kids and grandkids cherish and love to have a part of grandpa in their homes. He is survived by wife, Doradean, children Joe (Sarah) Lewis, Ilene (Mike) Silvers, Brenda (Vern) Loveless and Fred (Ann) Lewis, 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; sister, Norma Christensen, brothers, Radley (Nancy) Lewis, Warren (Beverly) Lewis, Brent (Diane) Lewis and brother-in-law, Mel (Norma) Bacon
