Simon Martin Christiansen returned home to his Heavenly Father September 16, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Born January 4, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Simon is the youngest son of Norwegian immigrants, Simon Martin Christiansen and Ingrid Maria Amalie Paulsen. Simon was the youngest of 8 children, Rolf, Harold, Signe, Walter, Birger, Waldemar, Elsȅ, and Ester. Simon married his High School sweetheart, Donna Lee Loftis, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on February 21, 1946. They have six children, Martin R., Michael L. (Susan), Connie Thomas (Karl), W. Scott (Debby), Cynthia Finch (Jim), Teresa Margetis (Louie), fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings, daughter-in-law, Suzanne and grandson, Erik Christiansen.
Simon served in many callings in the LDS Church, Ward Clerk, Stake High Council, Bishopric, Bishop and Stake Presidency. He was a faithful servant of the Lord. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and visited Norway with family on a number of occasions. He wrote a book about his Mother and Father’s life and their journey from a small Norwegian village to America.
Simon worked in the construction industry in Salt Lake City and the Western United States with his three older brother’s, Rolf, Walter and Wally, (Christiansen Brothers, Inc.) for 54 years building many large commercial projects: University of Utah Medical School Phase I, LDS Church Office Building, Joseph Smith Memorial Building, US Bank Building, Eagle Gate Tower and ZCMI Center, Salt Lake City; C. Clemmont French Administration Building, Pullman, Washington; LDS Dallas Temple addition and remodel, Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, 12:00 p.m. at the Brighton 5th Ward Chapel, 2301 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.). A visitation will be held Friday, September 22, 2017, at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6-8 p.m. and the day of the service at the church from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment Mountain View Memorial Estates.
