Constance Barrett

July 5, 1929 — March 12, 2018

Constance Haycock Mower Barrett
1929 - 2018

Our dear Mother, Constance Haycock Mower Barrett, 88, passed away peacefully while she slept, surrounded by her loving family, on March 12, 2018

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on March 19, 2018 at Cannon Mortuary with a visitation from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery.

Constance was born in Springville Utah on July 5, 1929. She graduated from San Mateo High School, in San Mateo California in 1947; soon thereafter she won first place in a beauty contest while living in San Bruno California, prior to leaving for college.

She continued her education for two and a half years at BYU when she met and soon married her first husband RKay Mower, in 1949; together they raised four daughters, Shawna, Tamara, Ronda and Lana, and lived in Salt Lake City together until they divorced. She later married Robert Michael Barrett and had her fifth daughter, Michelle; after their marriage ended, she went through the Salt Lake City Temple, in 1967.

Constance worked in many areas during her life, including managing the Alpine Rose Lodge at Brighton Ski Resort and especially loved caring for children and the elderly. She was a gifted writer and especially loved writing poetry; she was thrilled and honored when her poems were published in an Idaho poetry book. Another of her passions was singing; she had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in several different choirs and events in the various states that she enjoyed traveling through. Our beautiful Mother always seemed to have a song in her heart, which kept her attitude positive and going strong for so many years. Her incredible ability to remain happy and upbeat was the ultimate example of how to persevere, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Her greatest gift to us was her constant, unconditional love, that never wavered;

She enjoyed playing Scrabble, (she was an expert) doing jigsaw puzzles, swimming, and eating macaroni and cheese while drinking her favorite drink, Pepsi Cola. She especially loved spending time in the mountains, and made sure all her daughters were taught how to ice skate and ski as youngsters; there are many fond memories of winter adventures together in Utah, Sun Valley, and the California Sierras. She loved her family above all else and spending time with them was her highest priority; she delighted in conversation with even the youngest of her great grandchildren, and could engage with them like no other. There are no words to describe how much we will miss her beautiful presence and we are beyond grateful for the joy and loving kindness she brought to each of our lives; she made us better people, by teaching us through her amazing example. She hoped to live on earth for 100 years, and almost made it, however the memories and her legacy of love will remain in our hearts forever. She was the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and example anyone could ever ask for; we love her with all of our hearts and will miss her every single day.

Instead of saying goodbye, she always ended with her signature farewell of "Cheerio"; today we are saying one last “Cheerio for now”, dear, beautiful, Mother.

Constance is survived by her five daughters, Shawna (Ronald), Tamara, Ronda (Tom), Lana (Rodney) and Michelle. (David), ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, brother, John Haycock.  Preceded in death by brother, Grant Haycock.

The family wishes to thank and extend our deepest appreciation to the Encompass Hospice Team for their amazing kindness and care of our beloved Mother.
