Arlene Emma (Jones) Jackman

March 10, 1930 ~ June 5, 2017 (age 87)

Arlene Emma Jones Jackman
1930 - 2017

Arlene Jackman returned to her Heavenly Father on June 5, 2017.  She was the oldest of five children born to Horace Allen Jones and Emma Elisabeth Friedericke Wagner. She was born March 10, 1930 and spent her entire life in the Salt Lake area. She graduated from South High School and graduated from the University of Utah in elementary education. She met the love of her life, Max Frederick Jackman, in 1948 after he returned from serving in the navy during World War II and fulfilling an LDS mission. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple August 3, 1951.

Arlene was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church positions including stake primary president, teacher, and temple worker. She loved learning and sharing all types of knowledge and thoroughly enjoyed studying and teaching the scriptures, particularly Isaiah. Arlene had an extremely creative mind, and was able to view the world from unusual perspectives. Throughout her life she enjoyed singing and gardening.  Growing up during the depression taught her the value of working hard and living frugally; she did not waste anything.

Together, she and Max left a wonderful legacy of hard work and faith for their seven children, thirty-two grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by all seven of her children. Rosemarie (Gregory) Johnson, Adrian (Terri) Jackman, Merrilee (Mark) Scott, Susan (Kevin) West, Aaron (Kathy) Jackman, Robin (Andrea) Jackman, Johanna (Kedrick) Wills, 31 grandchildren and 45 great grand children, sisters, Wilma Jepperson and Norma Drayer and brother, Robert Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Max, a granddaughter Jessica Allison Jackman, a daughter-in-law Marilyn Webb Jackman, and her brother Richard Wagner Jones.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 1830 East 6400 South. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. prior to the service. Internment at the Murray City Cemetery. Services facilitated by Cannon Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints humanitarian fund, perpetual education fund, or temple construction fund.
